«The literature of 19th-20th centuries is a greatest collection of different genres, different sizes, and different themes. The modernist literature, that was founded in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, had influence on around all literature of this period. Some modernists fostered a utopian spirit, stimulated by innovations in anthropology, psychology, philosophy, political theory, physics and psychoanalysis. This idealism, however, ended, with the outbreak of World War I, and writers created more cynical works that reflected a prevailing sense of disillusionment. Many modernist writers also shared a mistrust of institutions of power such as government and religion, and rejected the notion of absolute truths. 


In this collection were edit works of such author's as Hector Hugh Munro (18 December 1870 – 14 November 1916), Herbert George Wells (21 September 1866 – 13 August 1946), Katherine Mansfield (14 October 1888 – 9 January 1923), and Howard Phillips Lovecraft (August 20, 1890 – March 15, 1937).


You will find here, for example, “The Cats of Ultar” is a story of one city, where it was forbidden to kill cats. It was first published in the journal “Tryout” in 1920. This tale was Lovecraft’s favorite as he was a cat lover. It is one«of the most popular stories by the writer. There was an old couple in the city Ultar who liked to trap and kill their neighbors’ cats. Nobody knew exactly, why they did this, but it was a pleasure to them. Once a caravan of dark strangers came through the city. With the caravan came a boy orphan Menes. The only friend he had was a little black kitten. One morning Menes didn’t find his precious kitten and villagers told him about the man and his wife and strange sounds heard the night before. The boy started to pray in a language no one could understand and the clouds in the sky started to take weird shapes. What happened then? You will recognize when you read the story. But for sure the old couple got what they deserved.»
